CRICKET IN WELLINGTON POOR SCORE BY COUNTRY TEAM. N. HOAR EATS AND BOWLS WELL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The first day’s play in the annual Town v Country cricket match at' the Basin Reserve yesterday was greatly in favour of Town. Taking first strike on a perfect wic--1 ket. Town secured 272 in their first 1 innings, a spirited stand by E. McLeod, the captain, and D. S. Wilson, 1 which put on 86 for the seventh wicket, saving the day for them. ’ Downes, the Manawatu fast lefthander, was the most successful bowl- ’ er for Country. N. Hoar (Masterton) ' also bowled well and took one wicket ; for 12 runs. The Country team had eight wickets down for 74 when Pritchard and N. Hoar, the 19-year-old Masterton player, got together and showed that runs eould be scored against the Town bowling. They were still together when stumps were drawn at 6 o’clock with the score standing at 107 for eight wickets. Pritchard being 18 and Hoar 15. The following were the scores:— TOWN. First Innings.
