Yesterday afternoon the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway, returned to Wellington by car from the north. This evening Lord and Lady Galway will leave for the South Island, where they are to fulfil a large number of engagements. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on the morning of Sunday. December 17. Sergeant C. A. Newland, of the machine-gun platoon, Burnham Military Camp, Christchurch, is visiting Masterton on leave. Today's guests at the Empire Hotel, Masterton are Messrs L. Edmonds (Nelson). Sefton (New Plymouth), H. Dudley (Palmerston North), R. J. Peacock and J. Morris (Wellington). Lieut. H. S. Budd, late of Masterton, who is attached to the Bren gun carrier platoon of the 19th Wellington Battalion, is spending his final leave in Masterton. Guests in the past two days at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Masterton, were Messr E. Solon (Trentham), Marshall (Napier), Hoskings (Auckland), L. Wilson (Wanganui), C. Bushby (Hastings), P. Cope (Palmerston North), and H, Sim (Wellington). The death occurred suddenly at Eltham of Mr Charles Norman Taplin, aged about .70, a well-known resident of the district. Born in Palmerston North the late Mr Taplin was well known in the Manawatu district as a commercial traveller and often visited the Wairarapa. Later he entered the dental profession, and commenced a practice in Eltham about 1921. For some years he was a member of the Eltham Borough Council. Besides his widow, the late Mr Taplin leaves a son, Mr Arthur Taplin. of Otakeho, and two daughters, Mrs Thomson, of Dunedin, and Miss Irene Taplin. of Eltham.
