AMATEUR ATHLETICS
MASTERTON CLUB LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS. ' MANY CLOSE FINISHES. Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the Masterion Amateur Athletic Club's sixth, meeting of the season held on the Park Oval last night. The large gathering thoroughly appreciated the close finishes in the flat events. Interest in the junior section continues to grow and the club has every reason to be pleased with the response made in connection with this branch of its activities. Up to the presen', juniors who have attracted attention are J. Harrington, S. Faulknor, J. Heaven. E. Jaspers, A. Reid and H. Hayes, and with a little coaching these boys should develop into good class runners. The senior 75 and 100 yards events last night went to A. E. Edwards, formerly of New Plymouth. The finish of the ICO yards race when Edwards staved off a challenge by J. Eastwood was exciting.
In the mile flat race W. Pullar and M. Sellar fought out the finish with Pullar prevailing by the narrowest of margins.
The ladies' 75 and 100 yards races saw Miss J. Grantham in good form, winning both races with something in hand. Mis-:. F. Baird from scratch ran well bn* without her usual dash over the last 10 yards. The field events attracted plenty of interest. In the junior putting the shot the effort of I. Prior was particularly noteworthy. L. Reynolds in the junior high jump registered a good performance to win from A. Reid who is jumping well. The third competitor, J. Heaven, is also jumping well.
