SAINT ANDREW SOCIETY

FORMATION OF PIPE BAND. At the concert on St. Andrew’s Night, it was announced that a deputation of pipers had waited on the Saint Andrew Society with the request that the society establish its own pipe band in Masterton. of which the members of the deputation should form the nucleus. After consideration, the society decided to accede to the deputation's request, and the band is now in existence, though at present without proper equipment. That lack, however, is one that the society, with its reputation for achievement, is unlikely to allow long to remain a reproach. The Society has succeeded in obtaining the services of Mr Johnnie MacKenzie as instructor to the band. Mr MacKcnzie’s reputation as a piper and a bandsman is sufficient assurance that the band will make progress.
