FLAG DAY
URGENT APPEAL BY MAYOR. PROVISION FOR SOLDIERS . AT CHRISTMAS. "An appeal is being made to the public .throughout the Wellington Province on Friday next for funds to be devoted to some special provision for the men in Trentham Camp and out stations at Christmas time,” the Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) said in a statement today. “It will take the form everywhere of the sale of Flags for which a minimum of Is each is asked, as it is not intended that this appeal should be one for major donations. I am sorry that it is still necessary for me to repeat that the proceeds will be received and spent by the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council and that the Government is not concerned with it. Neither is the Salvation Army. In the face of the common danger to all that we prize as a nation let us cease to waste our energies on domestic strife and give our support and encouragement to those who are soon to go overseas in our defence. This is all that matters in the meantime. "I desire to thank Mrs J. Caselberg for undertaking the necessary organisation to reach all parts of the town with her detachment of sellers and I hope that the public will receive them generously.”
