CHILDREN'S CONTEST I MARTINBOROUGH & LONGBUSH GROUPS. FURTHER JUDGING RESULTS. (“Tirnes-Age” Special.) The judging of calves and lambs in the Martinborough children’s group took place yesterday, the awards being as follow: —10 caves and 10 lambs were judged by Mr J. Donald. Type—Molly McGillicuddy (Dyerville). 1; Dorothy Colton (Martinborough), 2; Harrod Theobald (Martinborough). 3; Stanley Trounce (Martinborough), 4. Care and handling—Molly McGillicuddy (Dyerville), 1; Peggy Mclntosh (Dyerville), 2; Peggy Colton (Martinborough). 3; Gordon Theobald (Martinborough), 4. Martinborough School.—Dorothy Colton, 1; Harrod Theobald, 2; Stanley Trounce, 3. LAMBS. Aisla Hancox (Dyer). 1; Brian McGillicuddy (Dyer). 2; Mary’ Connelly (Martinborough), 3. After judging the stock,. Mr Donald gave a very instructive talk on the most important points to be looked for in selecting a calft for competition, and in paticular advised the children not to pick a calf because it happened to be the daughter of a favourite cow, but to try and select one strong in important points, particularly constitution. Afternoon tea was served in the school to visitors. Among those present were Messrs H. Hesse, supervisor in Agriculture, F. C. Brockett. Instructor in Agriculture, L. A. Keats, President of the Wairarapa Boys' and Girls Agriculture Clubs.' and about 20 parents and representatives of the school committee. LONGBUSH GROUP. The lamb rearing competitions at Longbush were held on Friday, the awards being as follow: — Longwool—Trevor Weber. 1; Howard Rutherford, 2; Alan Hackston. 3. Blackface —Peter Cooper. 1; lan Scott, 2; Russel Rutherford, 3. Champion lamb—Trevor Weber. The gathering of about 30 visitors was addressed by the judge. Mr Ross, and Mr Hackston. for the school committee. after which afternoon tea was served by' the ladies present. A display of work by' the school children was then inspected. There were six lambs judged by Mr A. Ross.
