SHANGHAI CLASH
OUTSIDE INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENT. BRITISH SUBJECTS ARRESTED BUT RELEASED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK. December 4. The Shanghai correspondent of the United Press of America, says Britons and Japanese-controlled Chinese police clashed outside the International Settlement. The police fired more than 50 shots into the air and arrested several unarmed British soldiers and one civilian. The cause of the trouble is obscure. British armed troops and municipal police arrived and negotiated lhe release of those arrested. The Dome! agency says lhe first units of the Durham Light Infantry have been withdrawn from Tientsin.
