GATHERING OF CUBS

RALLY AT CARTERTON. LIST OF PRIZEWINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very large assemblage of parents and the general public were present on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday to witness a rally of Cubs from all over the Wairarapa district’ (north and south). The Cubs were under the command of Miss McTaggart. Cub Commissioner, of Featherston. Commissioner N. C. C. Shepherd, of the Boy Scout Movement, and the Cubmasters of each corps were also pro sent The competitions throughout the afternoon created a great deal of interest. Afternoon tea was presided over by an energetic ladies’ committee and was greatly appreciated. The principal prize was for a cup presented by Mr W. Howard Booth, this cup being for annual competition. It was won by the Mo Katoa Cub Company, Masterton. An excellent programme of events was gone through. At the close of the day’s events Commissioner Shepherd thanked everyone for their attendance. The Cubs had acquitted themselves creditably in their various events and it was a great pleasure to witness the way in which they went about their tasks. He had pleasure in presenting the prizes to the winners and congratulated them all. The following are events and results: — W. H. Booth’s Cup.—Mo Katoa (Masterton), 94 points, 1; Carterton, 69 points, 2; Greytown. 67, 3 St Matthew's No. 1, 61. 4; St Matthew’s No. 2, 59. 5: Featherston. 15, 6. Ball-throwing.—Greytown 1, Mo Katoa 2. Carterton 3. St Matthew’s No. 1 4. St Matthew's No. 2 5. Featherston 6. Mixed relay (hoop bowling, book balancing, hopping, bandage a cut finger, turn a somersault, tie a clove hitch, 1 boy each. —Mo Katoa 1. St Matthew’s No. 1 2, St Matthew's No. 2 3; Greytown 4. Two teams were disqualified. Skipping relay, thirty backwards (4 boys).—Mo Katoa 1. Carterton 2. St Matthew’s No. 23, St Matthew's No. 1 4. Two teams were disqualified. Knot tieing relay, four knots in following order: Clove hitch, reef, sheet, bowline (4 boys).—Carterton 1. Greytown 2. Mo Katoa 3. Three teams were disqualified. Hunger dance of Kaa— St Matthew’s No. 1 Pack. 1. The chariot race, treacle bun and apple bobbing were all events that created a lot of amusement. The gathering was a pronounced success and all who attended went away well satisfied with the arrangements.
