END OF WATUSSI
SET ON FIRE BY CREW ON BEING INTERCEPTED BY PLANES. WARNING BOMBS DROPPED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Dav. 11.25 a.m.) CAPE TOWN. December 3. . The Watussi. which is the first fruit of South Africa's extensive and tin-’ ceasing coastal patrols, at first refused to reveal her identity or to change course. A plane threatened to drop bombs, whereupon the captain pleaded that there wore passengers aboard. He changed course only after two bombs had been dropped ahead, but soon after this dense smoke came from the ship. Ten boats put off, those aboard including women and children. A warship picked up survivors, while the ship blazed furiously.
The Watussi. a German ship of 9,500 tons was reported last week to have slipped out of Mozambique harbour, where she had sheltered since the outbreak of war.
