CARTERTON
SWIMMING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr L. J. Fairbrother presided at the annual meeting of the Carterton Swimming Club. Votes of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Mrs J. Lawrence and the late Miss Eleanor Stubbs. Mr Lawrence is the esteemed patron of the club, and Miss Stubbs was an energetic and valued member of the committee. . The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. A substantial credit balance was shown. Votes of thanks were passed to the Borough Council, the Press, supporters and all officials, special reference being made to the work of the secretary, Mr E. Wilkins, and the president. Mr Fairbrother. It was announced that Mrs M. King had donated a trophy in memory of her late husband, Melville King, who was a keen supporter and official of the club. It has not yet been decided what form the trophy should take. The election of officers resulted as I follows: —Patron, Mr J. Lawrence; president. Mr L. J. Fairbrother; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. Udy, L. Clark. F. Taplin, E. McKenzie. H. Matson, W. Sorenson, R. Wakelin; club captain, Mr J. Yule; secretary. Mr E. Wilkins; treasurer. Mr G. Brown. Junr.; auditor. Mr L. Clark; committee. Mrs I. Bond. Misses L. Hopkins, H. Callender and G. Knutson. Messrs A. Deller. I. Bond. A. Pinfold. Q. Desmond. A. Lane, T. Harp, and all officers exofficio; handicappers. Messrs E. Wilkins and L. Fairbrother; timekeepers, Messrs R. Wakelin and M. Worsfold; ocicial starter. Mr H. Matson. It was decided to pay half the cost of a new springboard for the baths, and also to contribute the sum of £l5 towards the new baths. The finances of the club are still in a healthy position after these payments are made. Opportunity was taken to make a small presentation to Mrs I. Bond in honour of her recent marriage and as a mark of appreciation of her services to the club. The presentation was made by Mr Fairbrother in the course of a brief speech, and Mrs Bond suitably replied. Personal. Messrs Martin Parker and O. A. Cadwallader, both breeders of Holstein dairy cattle, intend to be present at the Invercargill Agricultural Show this month. Later on Mr Parker will journey to Auckland to judge the Holstein stock at the Auckland Show. .A wedding of interest will take place in Carterton this evening.
