GOODS SALVAGED
FROM STRANDED STEAMER WAIKOUAITI FIFTY TONS REACH BLUFF. VESSEL. IN BAT) STATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! INVERCARGILL, This Day. Approximately 50 tons of cargo salvaged from the Waikouaiti were landed at the Bluff last, evening. They consisted principally of Australian wines, a large number of ingots of tin, chests of tea, electrical appliances, cases of Japanese silk goods and various sundries. It is now reported that water has found its way into No. 3 hold, and that the ship is working badly. The list has increased and the foremast is working ominously. A man of wide engineering experience who visited the ship on Thursday afternoon said it was unfortunate that the necessary insurance regulations appeared to have delayed salvage operations for two whole days, each of which had been ideal for the job. The weather is cold and there is a northeast wind this morning; but it is expected that salvage work will continue today. An attempt will be made to work the ship by steam.
