Messrs Daley and Dosser are guests from Wellington at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. The Hon H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Housing, will leave Wellington for the north tomorrow night. Samuel. Levy: 24-year-old world draughts champion, died in hospital at Manchester recently. He had received a challenge from Asa Long, American champion, and intended visiting the United States. The Rev Angus Mcßean. the president of the Methodist Church in New Zealand, is to be in Masterton over the weekend, and will be the preacher at the Methodist. Church tomorrow evening. The combined staff of the Masterton Borough Council assembled on Thursday afternoon to make a presentation to Mr S. Dawe, assistant borough engineer. to mark his recent marriage at Napier. In making the presentation of a handsome chiming clock, Mr C. R. Mabson (Borough Engineer) wished Mr Dawe happines and prosperity in the future. Mr Dawe’s health was then toasted. Mr Dawe suitably acknowledged the presentation. Advice has been received in Palmerston North, of the death at his home in Queen's Avenue, McMahon's Point, Sydney, on November 22, of Mr James Linton, senior partner in the firm of Perkins, Stevenson and Co., solicitors. Mr Linton, who was 65 years of age. was born in Palmerston North and was a brother of Sir Richard Linton, formerly Agent-General for Victoria in London, and who visited Palmerston North, where he spent his boyhood, some time ago. The death has occurred in Wanganui of the Rev J. G. Wheatley, who was born in Reading. England. During the Great War Mr Wheatley volunteered for service and worked among the wounded at Netley Hospital, England. For health reasons he came to- New Zealand and held various positions with the Y.M.C.A.. including those of general seretary in Hastings, industrial seceretary in Waitoa and military secretary in Auckland. Later he joined Die Presbyterian Home Mission Committee and. in turn, was in charge of the Presbyterian Church in Opunake, Port Ahuriri and Aramoho,
