RECREATION PLANS
NEEDS OF MEN IN CAMPS.. . The question of recreation for the men in the military camps has been taken up by the Government. The needs of the camps vary greatly. For many of them recreation facilities are very well developed, particularly in the case of the permanent military camps such as Trentham and Burnham. In the newer and more isolated camps and Air Force bases they are less developed. Much has been done by private organisations and it is proposed, so far from interfering with their organisations in any way, to work through them as far as possible. There are. however, many gaps, and since no organisation exists for co-ordinating activities. it is proposed that the local Physical Welfare and Recreation Committees in areas near the camps shall be constituted as sub-committees of the Provincial Patriotic Councils. These have the local control of the expenditure of patriotic funds. In this way it will be possible to co-ordinate activities and expenditure. A wider and more thorough programme of recreation should be obtained as a result. The Physical Welfare and Recreation Committees will arrange functions as far as possible through local sporting .'.nd recreative organisations.
