LABOUR OPPOSES HILLER
STRONG CON DEI\INATION. "The Labour movement entered this war for two compelling reasons, for our own self-preservation and for the sake of human liberty and brotherhood." said Mr Hugh Dalton. M.P.. the British Labour leader, in tt recent speech. "The victory of Hitler over us would mean, first and foremost, the suppression of all the Labour movement stands for —trade unions, co-op-erative societies, the right of free speech, of voluntary political organisation. of democratic election. All these institutions have been brutally destroyed in Germany, in Austria, in Czecho-Slovakia. and now in Poland. There tire a few in Britain who cry 'Stop the war.' 'Stop it now without conditions.' In this country they are free to speak their minds. In Germany they would be shot like dogs, or horribly tortured and misused in Hitler's concentration camps. If we were to stop the war now. on Hitler's terms, when would it start again? As soon as it suited his purpose to break his word once more. No one believes Hitler's promises any more. We want peaceful deeds, not worthless words from him now."
