BOWLING CONTESTS CHAMPION RINKS DRAW. ("Times-Age” Special.) The following is the draw for the second round of the champion rinks to be played on Saturday: Sorenson v Simmonds; Hughan v J. G. Stevens; Barr v Whyte; Riggs v Barber: Harp v Tucker. Arrangements are well in hand for the annual visit of teams from t'he Manawatu Centre on December 9. Six teams will be accommodated on the Carterton green in the morning. Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough will send a team each and Carterton will provide three teams. In the afternoon Wairarapa will play Manawatu at Masterton. The fallowing games have been played in the Carterton Club’s fixtures: Progressive pairs: G. Steven and Hughan (s) lost to McCarty and Larsen (s) 23/25; McCarty and Sorensen (s) defeated Dudson and Smith (s) 30/19; G. Steven and Callender (s) defeated Boyne and Barber (s) 30/18. Champion pairs: Harrington and R. Thompson (s) defeated Larsen and Robertson (s.) 20/16. Singles: Robertson beat Hawker 23/15. OBITUARY MR W. F. WALLIS. The death occurred at Wellington on Wednesday of Mr William Forfar Wallis, second son of Mr Arnold Wallis and the late Mrs Wallis. The late Mr Wallis was well known in Carterton and lived with his parents in Park Road and other parts of the Carterton disstrict. Most of his schooldays werespent at the Parkvale School and at the Clareville School. He was highly respected by all who knew him. At one time • he and his brother James, now of Greytown. farmed a property at Manning’s Road, Belvedere, for some years. He gained a school scholarship when in his teens. He had been in ill health for somd years and some time ago he entered the Wellington Public Hospital for treatment for an inward ailment from which he never recovered. He leaves a wife and many brothers and sisters mostly resident in Hawera, Stratford and Palmerston North. His father, who is still hale and hearty, resides in Taranaki and is over 92 years of age. The funeral took place at Karori Cemetery, Wellington, this afternoon. Much sympathy is expressed for his father, brothers and sisters, who are well known to Carterton residents. Personal Items. Mr Fred Wise, of Wellington, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday. The many friends of Mrs D. Gibb' Johnston will be pleased to learn she successfully underwent an operation at Croydon Hospital yesterday. Misses R. and H. Every, of Nelson, who have been visiting Carterton for the wedding of their niece, have left for Tauranga where they will spend a holiday before returning. MR C. R. BLAKE. The death took place at Wellington Public Hospital on Wednesday of Mr Charles R. Blake, after an illness extending over a long period. The deceased was well known in Carterton and was highly respected by a large circle of friends. He lived in Carterton for many years and was at one time employed by the Greytown Borough Council as borough foreman. His wife . predeceased him some years ago. Mr C. E. Blake, road overseer at Waitara, is a son. and Mrs Hurndell, of Park Road. Carterton, is a daughter, to whom deep sympathy will be expressed. The funeral took place at Clareville cemetery this afternoon. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Ponatahi on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The preacher will be the Rev W. F. Stent. Services at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Sunday will be held at < 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The text for the ] morning address will be "Work Great- : er Than These" and in the evening i "Like Wandering Sheep."
