HEAVY FLOODS
IN NELSON DISTRICT. ROADS BLOCKED BY SLIPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON. November 39. Many parts of the Nelson district are experiencing Hoods as high as any in their history. This evening's train was unable to I proceed beyond Hope, and access by road to South End Bay districts was i completely blocked'. At Brightwatcr water entered a number of houses and I premises, including the Waimea dairy i factory. The Golden Bay area is also I heavily flooded. ■ Takaka is completely isolated, north and south, and serious Hoods have taken place. A number of large slips have occurred on the Takaka hills. It is probable that the road will be closed for three days. Heavy seas damaged the seafront road between Nelson and Tahunanui. The Nelson-Blenheim road is also blocked al several points. In the city the Maitai has been running bank high, but no serious damage is reported. The Motueka River has not been in high Hood, but heavy rain has fallen. Strawberry pickers have been working continuously to clear! fruit for the factory to enable the next I picking to come on. (.'berry growers are sidl'ering through the fruit crack-1 ing. I
