CHRISTMAS FAIR

LN Al!) OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS MUNICIPAL HALL GAILY DECORATED. FINE DISPLAY ON STALLS, , The Christmas Fair in aid of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund, ; organised as a community effort, is being held in the Mastertoil Municipal Hall this afternoon. The hall is gaily decorated with red. white and blue bunting, a strong keynote of patriotism being apparent in all the decorated stalls, which are draped with paper festoons of red. white and blue. The stalls are well laden, and all manner of games and competitions are being organised by an energetic committee. The fair was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) at 2 o'clock today. Mr J. Robertson, M.P.. is presiding. Mr .jordan was presented with a buttonhole, and a beautiful bouquet of red roses, carnations and maiden-1 hair fern, donated by a well-wisher, for [Mrs Jordan (who was unable to be I present on account of being indisposed). COOKERY COMPETITION. The following were prizewinners in the cookery competition:— Fruit cake (first prize a permanent wave donated by Mrs L. McKenzie, second prize a trophy donated by Mr J. Ninnes): Mrs A. Woodley. 1: Miss Billington, 2. Madeira cake (first prize, trophy donated by Mr S. A. Mills): Mrs Chap-; man, 1. i Butter sponge (first prize. 1 dozen I essences donated by Hansell's Ltd., so- I cond prize donated by Mr J. Watson): Miss Cole. 1: Mrs F. Cole, 2. Plain sponge (first prize, trophy donated by Messrs Hugo and Shearer, second prize, trophy donated by Mrs P. Doyle): Mrs H. Anderson, 1; Mrs Donovan. 2. Batch of scones (trophy donated by Mrs Dewar): Mrs Quin. 1. Pikelets, (trophy donated by Mr J. Watson): Mrs Bell, 1. Home-made butter, lib. (trophy donated by committee): Mrs Champion.
