CARTERTON
POSITION OF BAND APPLICATION FOR GRANT. (“Times-Age” Special.) At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council the Carterton Band executive applied for a further grant toward its funds. Sympathy was expressed with the band, which, it was mentioned. was making great efforts to mould itself into a useful institution again. Many young recruits were being taught and the bandmaster Mr Tom Udy was spending a lot of time in teaching therh. It was decided to ask the band for a statement of its finances and to review the position at the next meeting of the council when a decision would be arrived at regarding further assistance. Councillors generally were sympathetic to the band and hoped it would not be long before a programme of music would be publicly played. BOWLING PROGRESSIVE PAIRS MATCH. A progressive pairs game was played on the green last evening when McCarty and Larsen defeated G. Steven and Hughan. On Saturday games in the club's champion rinks will be further advanced.
