Teacher: Why is our language called the mother tongue? Scholar: Because father never gets a chance to use it! An old copy of the New Testament, printed in the Maori language by the Church of England press at Paihiu in 1837, has been presented to the Methodist Church Theological Training College at Auckland. It is the gift of Mrs B. S. Halcombe, a granddaughter of the late Rev 11. H. Turton, one of the early Methodist missionaries in Taranaki. The Testament was used by Mr Turton in his work among the Maoris.
