RATIONING IN BRITAIN AMERICAN MEDICAL HELP. MEETING OF THE FRENCH PARLIAMENT. The following Daventry reports have been rebroadcast by the New Zealand national stations: — The rationing of bacon and butter is to come into force in England early in January. The allowance will be 4oz. per capita per week. There will be no rationing of sugar, but consumers are asked to limit themselves to one pound per week. Gratification is expressed in England at the proposed formation in the United States of organisations to make available to the Allies medical supplies from a fund which it is hoped will amount to £ 100.000. English Press comment refers to this as an illustration of the flowing tide of sympathy from the United States. The French Senate and Chamber of Deputies have been convoked for Thursday. This will be the second extraordinary session of the French Parliament since the outbreak of the war. One of the first tasks of the chambers will be to renew the full powers of Parliament for another six months of a year. The term of Parliament is due to expire on November 30. The exclusion of the Communist members of the Senate and the Chamber and the Budget debate will probably occupy most of the remainder of the session. The latest British steamer reported sunk is one of 2500 tons. Twenty-five persons are missing.
