ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY

CONCERT ON THURSDAY NIGHT. Careful rehearsal, under the direction of Chieftainess Mrs R. A. Miller, of the one-act Scot’s play "Midnicht,” to be presented by the St Andrew Society in the Opera House on Thursday evening, is stated to have brought its presentation to such a stage as to ensure the full enjoyment of patrons. The play is a delightful blend of thrills and laughter. The lighting and stage effects will be a feature, thanks to Mr J. M. Lawson's efforts. Mr Lawson, also, is responsible for the stage-manage-ment throughout the concert, and can be relied on to arrange an effective setting for every item. The audience is to be well treated by the visiting singers, Mrs Wilfred Andrews and Mr Ken Macauley. Each will make two appearances, singing a group of numbers at each appearance. The duets by Miss Jameson and Mr Mann should prove delightful, both in selection and in execution. In the pipe music to be presented will be incuded, by special request, the quartet in parts, “The Green Hills of Tyrol,’’ which was so favourably received at a recent gathering of the society. The request for this item comes not only from pipers (for whom, of course, it has a special appeal), but also from musicians generally, by whom the skilful and harmonious blending of the parts has been much appreciated. The performers will be Pipers L. Pither, N. Dickel and A. and W. Mackenzie Douglas.

Reservations for the concert are excellent. and it is certain that no one will be disappointed with the entertainment to be provided on Thursday evening. Moreover, the souvenir programme, to be presented free to patrons, is in itself a work of art, reflecting great credit on its producer, Mr T. E. Handcock.
