A 6551 b mako shark which broke away when hooked on ordinary shark tackle last week, was caught by another fishing party near Awanui. North Auckland, on Sunday. The fish was more than 10ft long and was sft 6in in girth. The fish first attracted attention on November 16 when it approached a launch from which Dr L. S. Rogers, of Te Awamutu. was fishing, and bit in half a 6ft school shark which was hanging over the side of the craft. The fish was hooked, but broke the wire trace. Mr A. O. Vasey. of Awanui. hooked the same shark on Sunday afternoon and. after a long struggle, succeeded in killing it with a heavy calibre rifle. The hook and trace from Dr Rogers’s tackle were still in its mouth.
