THE SHOP ASSISTANT
NOT AN EASY LIFE. SOME BEAUTY HINTS.. A shop assistant’s life is not as easy as it may sometimes appear. She is usually on her feet all day, often in draughty or ill-ventilated positions, serving' wrinkle-creating customers, and having rushed meals. But like every other human being she is expected to be well groomed, courteous, and charming. Also remember that your departmental manager is always _ studying and. seeking girls for promotion. It is the girl who can smile who gets on. And now for your beauty problems. The first essential is plenty of fresh air. You are indoors all day. breathing air which is stale, and :t is necessary that each week-end you procure as much sunshine as is possible. At night sleep with your windows wide open, and if possible have a brisk ten minutes’ walk each morning. Lack of fresh air will play havoc with your skin and will make it muddy and sallow. Your meal hour is also a rush and a trial, and it is here again that the complexion suffers. Make your meal as light and as small as is possible. A heavy meal will make you feel drowsy during the afternoon, and it will make the skin muddy and oily, and will create enlarged pores. By eating little you will have, more time to chew it thoroughly, and this will aid the digestion. Always have a glass of milk at lunchtime, and during the warmer weather fruit salads and fresh fruit form an ideal light luncheon. Why not combine with two or three of your fellow workmates, so that each day one can bring a lettuce, another some tomatoes, another a pineapple, and so on? Thon you-can divide the spoils between you and share in a wonderful health and beauty-giving meal. Your hands will need very careful attention. They should be well groomed, and nail varnish should not be too glaring and obtrusive. Your make-up should also be light. The more natural it is, the better will your departmental manager be pleased. If you carry out these few simple hints, you will find that your work will become a pleasure, and that advancement will be more rapid.
