HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. RACES FROM THE NORTH. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew two races from the north recently —one from Mercer, 253 miles airline for yearlings only, and one from Auckland. 280 miles airline distance, for old birds. Both races count for points in the Rose Bowl trophy. Thirty-seven birds were liberated from Mercer at 8 a.m. and flow through heavy weather. The first six placings for club points were:—W. J. Miller's ‘Flying Scot.” 8 hours 7 minutes 1 second, 1; C. J. Douglas’s -Dewar,” 8-11-7, 2; I. Mayes's “Sherwood.” 8-19-25. 3; F. Harding's “Jet Blue,” 8-20-18, 4- T Hirst's “Blue Nymph.” 8-21-4, 5; W. Steer's “Blue Bantam.” 8-21-39, 6. The birds from Auckland were liberated at 7 a.m. with the sky overcast and a N.N.W. wind. The results were:—W. J. Miller’s “Night Flight.” 8-47-53. 1; W. J. Miller’s “Night Tide.” 8- 2: W. Steer’s “Negroid,” 8-49-54, 3: W. Steer’s “Kokatu,” 8-50-29. 4: Stear’s and Miller's “Clinker Maid.” 9- 5: I. Mayes's “Old Reliance,” 9-40-14. 6. The next race will be from Christchurch.
