MAGNETIC MINES
HITLER’S SECRET WEAPON BRITISH SCIENTISTS SEEKING COUNTER-MEASURES. EVIDENCE OF SUBMARINE FAILURE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON. November 24. Officials say that intensive efforts are being made by the naval authorities to combat the latest menace—magnetic mines. A great team of scientists is seeking coun-ter-measures. No ports have been closed. A convoy arrived safely in the Thames Estuary today. Naval officials take comfort from the fact that the success of the anti-sub-marine campaign has forced the Nazis to resort to what is believed to be Hitler’s secret weapon, namely magnetic mines dropped by parachute. It is emphasised that submarine attacks on shipping would be the most successful method if it could be carried out, whereas hundreds of mines are without victims. ,
