TWENTY CHARGES
WOMAN SENT TO GAOL FOR SHOPLIFTING. THEFTS OVER LONG PERIOD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Convicted on all charges of shoplifting, Annie Adalia Albertha Le Comp O’Hanlon, aged 57. was sentenced by Mr J. Molding in the Police Court today to two months’ imprisonment, to be followed by 12 months’ reformative detention. Defending counsel, Mr Aekins, produced a telegram from Mrs O’Hanlon’s daughter in Christchurch stating that she would give her mother a home for life if she were given another chance. Mr Aekins asked that she be shown the utmost leniency. The magistrate said the prisoner had already served a sentence for shoplifting and had committed these thefts over a long period in a cunning, methodical way. She might be termed a professional shoplifter. On each ol nine charges the prisoner was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, followed by 12 months in a reformative prison the terms to be concurrent. On the remaining 11 charges she was convicted and discharged. An order was made for the return of goods which had been identified. The police said they would endeavour to trace the ownership of unidentified property. _____
