KING TO HIS PEOPLE

SPEECH AT PROROGATION OF PARLIAMENT United Effort Against German Aggression SPONTANEOUS ACTION BY DOMINIONS APPRECIATED CONFIDENCE THAT JUST CAUSE WILL PREVAIL (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, November 23. His Majesty the King, in a speech at the prorogation of Parliament, said : “The shadow of war has once more fallen over Europe. Despite my Government’s efforts to preserve peace, Germany, violating solemn undertakings, wantonly invaded Poland' This new instance of German aggression and bad faith was a challenge which conld not be declined without dishonour to ourselves and without peril to the cause of freedom and the progress of mankind. We do not seek material gain. The liberty of free institutions is onr birthright, which we, like our forefathers, are resolved to preserve. The issue is clear. My peoples, here and overseas, have dedicated themselves to the struggle with united will. The spontaneous decision of my Dominions was to participate in the conflict and the invaluable help they are giving and are able to give to the common cause has been the greatest encouragement to me. We cannot doubt that our cause will prevail.”
