Mrs Johnston, of Wellington, is visiting Mrs T. Hancock, Putara. Mrs A. Vaughan, of Pahiatua. has returned from a visit to Dunedin.

Miss M. Jolly, of Hastings, is the guest of Mrs A.. Tait, of Ballance. Mr and Mrs R. Walker, Wellington, are staying at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Masterton.

Mrs E. Braggins, of Christchurch, who has been the guest of Mrs A. Tait, of Ballance, has returned home.

Mr and Mrs S. J. Munn, Waingawa, are spending a holiday at Paraparaumu.

Mrs Fred Mills, of Perry Street, Masterton, underwent an operation this week and is progressing very favourably.

Mrs W. Penistone and Miss M. Penistone, of Levin and formerly of Masterton, are spending a few days in Masterton.

! The many Masterton friends of Mrs Andrew Hornblow, of Wellington, will regret to learn that she has found it necessary to enter the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington, for treatment. The death occurred on Tuesday at Wanganui of Mrs Josephine Rutherfurd, widow of the late Mr John Rutherfurd, of Wairere, Masterton, in her 83rd year. Guests this week at the 'Empire Hotel, Masterton, have been: Mr and Mrs Budd (Gisborne), Mr and Mrs Cass (Hawke's Bay), Mr and Mrs Young (Wellington), and Mr and Mrs G. O’Rorke (Pahiatua). Miss Mahood, who is at present on the staff of the District High School, Martinborough, has been appointed to the Featherston School staff, that school having advanced a grade. Miss Mahood will commence her duties at Featherston when the school re-as-sembles after the summer vacation.
