MASTERTON CLUB. RESULTS OF LAST NIGHT'S EVENTS. In spite of the threatening weather conditions there was a good attendance of both the public and competitors. al the weekly meeting held at the Park Oval last night. With four meetings now held form is rapidly becoming evident, and the capabilities of the competitors can be better judged. The results of last night's events are as follow: —
Senior 75 yards handicap:—D. Stratton 1. E. Martin . H. Sharpies 3. D. Stratton made most of his handicap to win by a foot from Martin who also ran a sterling race, catching the field. Sharpies the third man, was close up and showed promising form. Junior 100 yards handicap:—lst heat, J. Harrington 1, J. Heaven 2. A. Reid 3. 2nd heat. E. Jaspers 1. M. Doyle 2, G. Whyborn 3. Final, J. Harrington 1. E. Jaspers 2, M. Doyle 3. In tne first heat Harrington off scratch, came through very determinedly to win by a foot, J. Heaven, also a smart youngster, ran a good race to gain second place from a determined finish by A. Reid. In the second heat E. Jaspers ran a sound race to beat M. Doyle who dwelt slightly at the start. The third man, G. Whyborn. having his first run, ran very solidly and with a little training should be heard of in the future. In the final Harrington showed rare determination at the finish, to overhaul the field, including Jaspers and Doyle, who both ran splendidly to gain second and third places respectively. Club ladies’ 100 yard handicap—J. Grantham 1, L. O'Neill 2. D. Brett 3. J. Grantham, returning to her besl form, won nicely from L’..O’Neil, who had the winner extended. The third girl, D. Brett ran a good race. One mile handicap (open).—B. Falloon 1. R. Wyeth 2, M. Sellar 3. Numerically distance events have not drawn particularly large fields in the past, but last night a fine field of 10 runners faced the starter, Mr W. Grantham, and although lack of training was evident in some, the race proved very exciting. Club ladies’ 75 yard handicap.—D. Brett 1, J. Grantham 2, L. O'Neill 3. One mile cycle' handicap—K. Woollett 1. G. Goodin 2, M. Graham 3. School boys’ 120 yards handicap—M. Voyce 1, J. Hodgetts 2, H. Keen 3.
Senior 120 yards handicap. —J. Eastwood 1, D. Stratton 2, J. Wickens 3. J. Eastwood is now showing some of the form which made him one of the best of Wellington’s sprinters last season. D. Stratton again showed up with his determined finish. The third man. J. Wickens. has not done much so far this season; but athletes and the public hope to see him improve as the season advances. School girls’ 120 yards handicap—G. Sayei- 1. J. Polson 2, M Cruickshank 3. Throwing the discus handicap —A. Curtis 1, W. Burns 2. D. Faulknor 3. Quarter-mile cycle handicap—G. Goodin 1. M. Graham 2. K. Woollett 3. School boys’ 440 yards handicap—F. Voyce 1. D. Davies 2, J. Hodgetts 3. School girls’ 50 yards handicap—G. Sayer 1, M. Cruickshank 2, J. McCormick 3. High jump junior handicap—J.
