ADDRESS BY SIR HERBERT HART. WAR EFFECTS IN PALESTINE. The Masterton Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon was hold in the Y.M.C.A. hail today. The president, Rotarian .1. J. Hunter, presided over a large attendance of members. The speaker of the day was Briga-dier-General Sir Herbert Hart. K.8.E., C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0.. V.D.. Chief Administrative Officer for the Imperial War Graves Commission in the Near East, and formerly Administrator of Western Samoa (1931-1935). Sir Herbert dealt with the position in Palestine and his experiences in the Near East. ‘■The situation is Palestine is definitely much better." said Sir Herbert. "From the moment that war broke out. both Arabs and Jews realised the danger to themselves if Germany succeeded in the conflict, and in her bid fori world domination. Throughout the country both Arabs and Jews passed! resolutions expressing a desire to as- | sist in co-operation with the Allies." I Sir Herbert, who is spending three) months' furlough, with Lady Hart, ini New Zealand before returning to his headquarters in Jerusalem, added that the- voyage from Port Said had been made under blackout conditions, but was without incident. A number of anecdotes related by Sir Herbert gave added interest to his address. On concluding, he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, which was carried by acclamation.
