WAR LOSSES
STATEMENT BY AUSTRALIAN MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Dav. 12.25 p.m.) CANBERRA.' November 21. The Assistant-Minister of Defence (Mr Collett) stated in the Senate that it was estimated that the total losses of both sides in the war on the Western front did not exceed 4000 men. About 1900 Allied lives had been lost at sea. including the losses suffered in the sinking of the Courageous and Royal Oak. The sinking of submarines had been responsible, it was estimated, for the loss of about 500 German lives. There had been 52 British casualties in air engagements.
