After spending some weeks in Angora, Turkey, the President of the Hatay (the Sanjak of Alexandretta) declared in a speech on his return to Antioch that the Hatav could no longer be separated from the Mother Country, and he looked forward to an early settlement of the country's status, which would be in keeping with the Hatavians' aspirations.
"When a constable at a country station earns the respect of the community and is then transferred and gives up that position to go to a city as ti section sergeant, lie is gone." said Superintendent ,1. Lander at a farewell gathering tendered in Wanganui to mark his retirement from the force. "In the city lie becomes a cog in the wheel, and while he is a useful cog. he has not nearly the same standing as when he was running his country station and’ had the respect and friendship of the people round him."
