To commemorate the hundredth anniversary of Hie first known ascent of Mount Egmont a bronze plaque will be erected on the summit on the occasion of an organised climb from the three mountain houses, to be arranged by afiiine clubs, in the province. The chairman of the Egmont National Park Board. Mr W. C. Weston, of New Plymouth, will be invited to lay the plaque, which will be sei in concrete. The first ascent was made by Dr Ernst Diell'enbach, and is believed to have been made on December 23. 1839. The anniversary ceremony will be held on December because the later date is considered too close Io Christmas.
