REGENT THEATRE

“VALLEY OF THE GIANTS.” Screening finally tonight this thrilling adaption of Peter B. Kyne’s great novel is one of the triumphs of the screen. Glorious technicolour renders the great redwood forests breathtaking in beauty, while splendid acting of a virile story comes from Wayne Morris, Claire Trevor, Alan Hale and a huge cast. “NAUGHTY MARIETTA.” Brought back by insistent demand this, the greatest musical romance of the screen, plays a return and final season on Wednesday. Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, two of the golden voices of the screen ring out in Victor Herbert’s immortal melodies working up to a crescendo of romance in the hauntingly beautiful “Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life.” Costuming and settings have never been caught with such beauty as in this noted masterpiece while its romantic story never fails to thrill and enchant. Delightful comedy comes from Frank Morgan and Elsa Lanehester but the whole huge cast cannot be faulted. It is idle to speculate as to its unique quality, to charm all. Suffice it is that it stands out supreme as the most' appreciated production of all time. Of special interest in the supports is the film record of the 1939 Melbourne Cup which has just landed, and as usual the Regent is to the fore with its presentations.
