SERIOUS UNREST
REPORTED IN BRITISH PRISONS. OFFICERS WORKING UNDER STRAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigin LONDON, November 17. Blood-curdling shrieks and foul oaths marked the spread of prison unrest to the Horsfield prison. Disturbances at Dartmoor, Exeter. Chelmsford Lewes and Cardiff caused prison officers to state that they cannot stand the strain much longer. The disturbances are believed to be due to resentment of the premature release of some prisoners at the beginning of the war. the loss of privileges such as visits from relatives, and the refusal of the Home Ofiice to allow smoking in the cells.
