WOMAN CHARGED

AUCKLAND HOTEL CASK. REMANDED IN CUSTODY, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. This Day. On her discharge from hospital this morning Josephine Norton Laycock, who was found in a hotel bedroom with her neighbour, Francis Leonard Laurie, on November 6, both with their wrists cut, was arrested and later appeared in the Police Court, charged: "That she did aid and abet Francis Leonard Laurie in the commission of the crime of attempting to murder herself." Asking for a remand until December 4. Detective-Sergeant Walsh said Mrs Laycock would be jointly charged with Laurie in respect of the same offence. Applying for bail. Mr Burt said Mrs Laycock had been in hospital since the day of the alleged offence. Detective-Sergeant Walsh pointed out that she was not bailable as of right. If bail was granted there should be some assurance that she would be properly looked after and if remanded in custody she would receive medical attention if it were required. The Magistrate. Mr J. Morling, said that in view of the distress accused was under, he thought it best to remand her in care of the authorities. Mr Burt said he would not press the matter, but had thought Mrs Laycock might go to her mother. Mr Morling granted a remand, remarking that she should be kept in custody in her own interests.
