AVALANCHE IN SWITZERLAND VILLAGE OVERWHELMED. MEMBERS OF POPULATION ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copj’right. LONDON. November 19. A message from Martigny, Switzerland, reports that an avalanche of mud and stones from the 5000 foot slopes of Mount Chavalard covered the village of Martigny 45 feet deep. The population of several hundred escaped when the rains started. A considerable number of live stock perished.
