MATCHES IN VARIOUS CENTRES. Wellington.—Solid scoring marked the finish of the third series of the Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship games on Saturday afternoon. Wellington College Old Boys beat Midland by 171 runs on the first innings at the Basin Reserve. Tindill and Osborn made a great effort to save the day for Midland by putting on 118 for the fifth wicket, but the innings closed for 304, 171 runs short of Old Boys’ total of 475. Midland followed on. and at stumps had 97 runs on for the loss of six wickets.

Kilbirnie outplayed University by 189 runs on the first innings on the Kilbirnie Recreation Ground. Kilbirnie replied to University's total of 149 by hitting up 338 for eight wickets, and then applying the closure. O. L. Wrigley, who just missed the century in the last match, played a dashing innings for 121, and D. S. Wilson and K. Eaton passed the half-century. University made a spirited reply in their second innings, which realised 211 for seven wickets, J. R. Sheffield, the professional coach, just failing by five runs to reach the century, and J. A. Ongley scoring 57. Resolute hitting by the captain, E. McLeod, who hit 15 off an over by J. Duffy, enabled Hutt to score an outright win over Karori on the Hutt Recreation Ground by two wickets right on the call of time. Karori totalled ' 137 and 227. J. Standidge playing a free I knock for 70 in the second innings, j Hutt hit 200 for six. declared, and 168 ] for eight wickets, McLeod winning the match with a breezy innings of 58 not out. Wellington in declaring their second innings closed with 178 runs on for the loss of eight wickets gave a most exciting finish to the game against Institute accepting the challenge, Boddy and Morton putting on 100 runs for the first wicket in 20 minutes. The following batsmen went for the runs, and when stumps were drawn the score stood at 212 for eight wickets. Institute just failing by nine runs to score an outright win. Christchurch. —For the third round of the Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions the wickets were excellent. A feature of the play was a brilliant innings of 113 by R. E. J. Menzies against Riccarton. With W. A. Hadlee he put on 174 for the first wicket. The lead in the competition is held by Lancaster Park with 21 points from Old Boys 18, these teams being well clear of the others. Old Boys, 305 (Menzies 113. Hadlee 76). beat Ric-

East Christchurch. 311 (Mades 73). beat West Christchurch, 212 and 44 for four.

Dunedin. —Steady rain on Friday resulted in waterlogged wickets for the grade cricket on Saturday and light rain which set in in the middle of the afternoon completed a disappointing day.
