Early clays in the history of New Plymouth have been recalled by interesting relics found at Mikotahi Sugarloaf, at the port of New Plymouth. They are a cannon ball and two hammers off old flintlock guns, and were found buried on top of the rock near the harbour beacon. Little bigger than a cricket ball and weighing nearly ijlb, the cannon ball fits . a small cannon that now rests outside the New Plymouth Public Library. The flintlock hammers belonged to separate guns, for both are from the same side.
