RECORDS BROKEN

SOLWAY COLLEGE SPORTS VERY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. EXCELLENT FORM SHOWN BY PUPILS. • The Solway College sports were held 1 under ideal weather conditions yesterday afternoon. Numbers of parents, i friends and old girls were present to 1 witness the breaking of several re- ; cords. The senior championship was “ won by June Hislop. 21 points, with ' Noreen McLeod runner-up. with 10 ■ points. The junior champion was - Odette Marsack with 14 points. Pamela : Thelwall being runner-up with 13 ■ points. The new senior records created i were: 75 yards senior won by June ■ Hislop in 9 4-ssecs., and’’ in the 100 yards senior won by Noreen McLeod in ■ 12secs. Of the three junior records ; broken, two were broken by the junior ' champion Odette Marsack, who showed great ability in the jumping events. The new records are: High jump. 4ft. 21in.; long jump. 12ft. lOlin. The other record broken was the 100 yards by Pamela Thelwall in 12 4-ssecs. The interform relay was won by Form VA. One of the most entertaining features of the afternoon, was the obstacle race in which sticky buns, apple bobbing , and crawling through tyres were included. After the races a delicious afternoon tea was served in the school dining room. This was followed by a fancy dress parade, for which the judges were Mesdames Saunders, Hislop and Fordham. Mr Clarkson was starter, the Rev. J. Davie was judge and Mr L. Nicol was timekeeper. At the conclusion of the sports Mr Davie expressed thanks to all who had contributed to the success of the meeting; to Miss Williamson (sports mistress) in particular whose organisation work and efficiency were responsible for the smooth running of the sports, to the judges of the events, to the judges of the fancy dresses, and to Mrs Hislop who presented the prizes. He called for three cheers for Mrs Hislop which were heartily given. The school girls and those present then joined in the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
