Tlie Hon Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, left Wellington last night for the South Island. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Cricket Association last night Mr P. Prescott was appointed junior representative selector.
The recovery of the British Prime Minister (Mr N. Chamberlain! from his attack of gout continues, a London cablegram states. He presided at a meeting of Cabinet on Tuesday morning.
The friends of the Rev R. S. Keenan, of Featherston, will regret to hear that his youngest brother Mr Henry John Keenan, lost his life when on duty at the pumping station at the Rangitata irrigation work's last Monday morning. Mr Douglas Askew, of the staff ol Messrs Hannah and Co. Masterton. left today for Christchurch to which city he has been transferred. Prior to his departure Mr Askew was presented with a travelling case by the staff. The Hon. F. Jones. Minister of Defence, left Wellington for Dunedin last night. Before returning to Wellington on Tuesday he will visit the air force establishments in Taieri and Wigram and the Burnham military camp.
The Rt Rev Monsignor Morkane. D.D., administrator of St Joseph's Cathedral. Dunedin, has returned after a nine months' holiday tour of England the United States of America, and Europe. lie arrived at Wellington from Auckland yesterday by train and left last, night for the south by the steamer express.
'I lie funeral of the late Mr A. Oliver, formerly of Masterton. took place at Takapau yesterday. The Rev H. Scott, i>f Takapau. conducted services at the house and at the graveside. The pallbearers were Messrs A. McHattie (Mastertoil), T. Durham. Withers. Nelson. Staines and Staines (Jtinr). Takapau.
