Hislop) in his capacity both as Mayor and as chairman of the Exhibition Company. The Governor-General arrived later anti officially opened the conference, after which Captain Holm, president of the Wellington Chamber, extended a welcome to the delegates. Mr M. S. In his presidential address, Mr Myers referred to the alteration which war had made in the Dominion's affairs. He urged the co-operation of all sections of the community with the object of making a united war effort, but said ho did not wish to advocate the stifling of discussion, because he considered that constructive criticism was of the greatest benefit to those who were criticised. Mr Myers urged closer consultation and collaboration between the public authorities and qualified private interests and contended that Chambers of Commerce, if rightly used, could render considerable and helpful service to those engaged in governing the country.
