HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROVIDENT FUNDS. The Director-General of Health (Dr P. M. Watt) advised the Wairarapa Hospital Board at its meeting today that in connection with National Provident Superannuation Fund contributions for members of the staff serving with the military forces, several hospital boards had stated that they were paying both board and staff contributions. The Director-General advised that the board should continue the payment of contributions during the absence of officers on leave for military service. After consideration by a special committee, it was agreed, on the motion of Mr P. R. Welch, that the committee's recommendation be adopted that the National Provident Superannuation Fund contributions of all employers called up for military service should be paid by the board until such time as the officers concerned were able to resume their employment. The Land and Survey Department wrote advising that certain land had been vested in the board for hospital purposes. The Local Government Loans Board advised that amended proposals to complete work with unexpended funds of £3,800 would be given consideration. The British Medical Association wrote concerning members of the staff serving with the military forces, and asked the board to grant leave without pay. The letter was received. The Greytown Borough Council advised in connection with the water supply for the grounds at the Greytown Hospital that the council would agree to the installation of a pump to draw water from a water-race. It was decided to refer the matter to a special committee. A further report of Hospital Board proceedings appears on page 5.
