The substitution of apples and pears for milk in the distribution to school children if milk became scarce was suggested by the Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association in a recent letter to the Canterbury Education Board; but the association received a reply from the board recommending the submission of the suggestion to the Direc-tor-General of Health. Previous approaches in this quarter had not been successful, it. was stated, but as the Government had recently expressed its interest in the project the association decided to take no further action.
