GERMAN CARGO STEAMERS

INTERCEPTED AT SEA. LEFT IN SINKING STATE BY CREWS. iRv Telegraph—Press Association, i (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) RUGBY, November 13. The Admiralty announces that the German steamers Mecklenburg of 8,000 tons and the Parana of 6,000 tons have been intercepted by British warships. The crews abandoned the ships, leaving them in a sinking condition. The crews were picked up by the British warships. The ships were finally sunk by gunfire to avoid the chance of their being a danger to navigation. The radio station at Reykjavik (Iceland) picked up an S.O.S. from the Parana reporting that she was being attacked by a British destroyer.
