It is officially announced that the sinking of the liner Sirdhana was due to a mine. It is officially stated that eleven deck passengers, chiefly children, were lost, and that nine other Asiatic passengers are missing. One hundred and thirtyseven Chinese who were being banished to Hong Kong were below decks behind a grille when the explosion occurred. The European police officer in charge blew off the locks with a revolver and all escaped from the jinking vessel. The American magician Nicola, who recently toured New Zealand and Australia, and nine members of his company, are among those rescued.
