i MEETING IN WELLINGTON. I McEVEDY SHIELD WON BY I WELLINGTON. — (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. With an aggregate of 58 points, Wellington Coliege retained the McEvedy Shield, competed for at the Wellington secondary schools’ annual athletic championships at the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Though the wind was a hindrance, the performers did exceedingly well, and the fact that three records were broken and three equalled says a good deal for the class of athlete competing this year. In the shot putt the record of 39ft. established last year by J. 'McLoughlin (Silverstream) was beaten by the versatile Rongotai student. J. D. A'Court, who did 42ft. 81 in. The other records wore in the 140 yards intermediate and junior relays, which were won respectively by Wellington College and St. Patrick's College, Silverstream. There were three grades, senior, intermediate and junior, and the points won by each school, together with the aggregate points, are as follows: — C T I
In the senior 440 yards race A. Mahupuku (Wairarapa) was second. In the intermediate grade I. Prior (Wairarapa) was third in the long jump and third in the 120 yards hurdles. A. Dewar (Wairarapa) was second in the high jump.
