TOE PEACE WE SEEK
NEED FOR DEFINITE STATEMENT. Early in the war phrases are appearing. writes a correspondent in Iho "Manchester Guardian," which closely recall what happened at the end of the last war. Part of the great indictment of war is to be found in the fact that by reason of its essential nature it create;; and intensifies the spirit of revenge, tends to confuse the real issue, and twists the truth. I suggest that for our own sake it is essential that the British Government should put forward a specific statement setting out. in terms as definite as possible. the peace we seek. Such a commitment on our part will help to prevent what otherwise may be the confusion and distortion of war. Such a statement of our constructive peace purposes would also. I am convinced have very groat value in respect of the sympathy and co-operation ol other nations throughout Iho world.
