FRONTIER CLASH

BETWEEN GERMAN OFFICIALS AND DUTCHMEN

One Man Killed and Others Kidnapped

INUNDATION OF DEFENCE LINE BEGUN

BELGIAN DEFENCES FULLY MANNED

(By Telegraph. —Press Association.—Copyright.)

(Received This Day. 1 p.m.) LONDON, November 9. A report from the Amsterdam correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Company states that one man, believed to be Dutch, was shot dead and a number of Dutchmen were kidnapped, at Velno, on the Netherlands-German frontier, tonight, during an armed clash between German officials and Dutchmen.

The Amsterdam correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain states that the inundation of the main water defence line through the centre of Holland was begun late tonight. Buses were requisitioned for evacuation and trains were curtailed from Amsterdam, apparently owing to troop movements.

The Brussels correspondent of the same agency states that the military took over the main roads and dug new trenches along the Albert Canal, near Maastricht, the appendix tongue of Holland between Belgium and Germany. All defences on the canal are fully manned and bridges mined.
