PEACE APPEAL

I BRITISH PRESS COMMENT REMAND FOR RENUNCIATION OF AGGRESSION. OBLIGATIONS TO POLAND EMPHASISED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. November 8. When a wrongdoer shows readiness to abandon his aggressions and renounce ill-gotten rewards of them il will be time to talk of discussing with him the foundation of a lasting peace.” “The “Daily Herald” says: “If Germany would first withdraw her troops from Poland and Czechoslovakia, Britain and France would be prepared to discuss terms for a peace settlement. There would be no harm in using the good offices of Belgium and Holland in order to make that clear to Herr Hitler once again.” The “News Chronicle'" says: “As long as the aggressor is in possession of his prey and as long as he denies the fundamental righty of individuals and States, the only answer we can give is to refer to our war aims and stand fast.”

GERMAN BLUNDER LORD HALIFAX’S ADDRESS. NOT REPLY TO NEUTRAL RULERS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 8. The German Foreign Office has suggested that Lord Halifax's broadcast last night was to be regarded as a reply to the telegram from Queen Wilhelmina and King Leopold to King George which had been published in London two hours earlier. Lord Halifax had. of course, prepared his speech without any knowledge of such an offer of mediation, which, as the Prime Minister, stated in the House of Commons today, is receiving careful consideration.
